Replatforming a national training provider on Vestval Learn
Migrating tens of thousands of learners off a stitched-together legacy LMS onto a white-labeled Vestval Learn deployment.

Challenge
The provider was running on an aging LMS with unreliable assessments, poor mobile experience and a brittle certification workflow. Learner NPS was declining and certification revenue was at risk.
Objectives
- Migrate tens of thousands of learners with zero certification data loss
- Modern, mobile-first learner experience
- Reliable certification workflow with clean audit trail
- Live analytics for course owners
Approach
We migrated content, certifications and learner history in a phased cutover, kept the legacy LMS read-only during transition, and rebuilt the assessment and certification workflows from scratch on Vestval Learn.
Solution
White-labeled deployment of Vestval Learn with native assessments, SCORM/xAPI support, cohort and certification workflows, and analytics for course owners.
Implementation approach
- 1
Certification audit & freeze
Full audit of issued certifications, immutable export, and freeze of the legacy LMS to read-only mode during migration.
- 2
Content migration in waves
Content migrated in program waves, each verified against the legacy source before cutover.
- 3
Assessment rebuild
Assessment engine rebuilt natively in Vestval Learn rather than ported — the legacy assessment was the single biggest source of reliability issues.
- 4
Phased learner cutover
Cutover by program with white-label theming verified per program, and learner support staffed up during the cutover window.
Technologies used
- Vestval Learn
- Native assessment engine
- SCORM / xAPI bridges
- Certification issuance workflow
- Course owner analytics
Outcomes
- Stable, modern learner experience across web and mobile
- Reliable certification workflow with clean audit trail
- Course owners gained live analytics for the first time
- Successful cutover with zero certification data loss
Lessons learned
- Zero-certification-loss is a hard bar, never a soft target.
- Read-only legacy mode during cutover saves the support team.
- Rebuild brittle subsystems natively; do not port them.
